The Department of History, Geography, Political Science, and Criminal Justice currently offers three four-year degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science, and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Criminal Justice. An Associate Degree (A.A.) in Criminal Justice is also available for those seeking a two-year program.
The B.A. in History has three major areas of focus. These are: U.S. History, European History, and African World Studies. All majors are required to take basic courses in each area, but individuals may select heavier concentrations in U.S. history, European history, or African World Studies, depending on their own interests and goals.
The B.A. in Political Science covers the five broad subfields of Political Science—American National Government, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Public Administration, and Political Theory/Research Methods. Students take some required courses in each of these subfields, in addition to elective courses from the subfields in which they wish to develop special competencies.
The B.A. in Criminal Justice provides knowledge of the foundations, principles and procedures of the criminal justice system. The program deals with the three components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, courts, and corrections. All students become acquainted with these areas and with the application of other bodies of knowledge to the criminal justice system.
