It is possible that you may enroll in a class that uses online course materials, such as the syllabus, calendar, quizzes, or supplementary reading and visuals. Or you may take a class that is fully online or meets on campus once a week or less.

Before you can register for a fully online course, you should complete the approval form that is included in this letter and available in the “Student Guide to WebCT Vista™” and contact the instructor of the web section of the course for approval. The approval form may be emailed, faxed or personally delivered to the section instructor. Once you have been approved to take the online course, you can then register for that section.

How can you be successful online? First, complete the SORT - Student Online Readiness Tool.

In addition, we have made an online guide available to you, free, so you can find out the answer to this question. If you have never taken a course fully online and are considering taking a class fully online, then you should go to the Student Guide to WebCT Vista.

If you have been admitted and have paid your fees, you may enter this course before classes begin. Here is how to log in:

  1. The user ID is the same as your FVSU email ID before the “@” sign. For example, jdoe1@student.fvsu.edu, would be jdoe1 for the Vista user ID.
  2. Your password is the same as your PIN for accessing Banner Web.
  3. If you have changed your PIN in Banner web, you should contact Amanda Glover at 825-6228. She needs to know so that the change can be made in Vista.
  4. If you do not have your FVSU Student Email account, please see the Student E-mail Guide
  5. Once you have retrieved your user ID and password, you can go to https://fvsu.view.usg.edu to log in to your FVSU Online WebCT Vista courses.

If there are problems, please call Amanda Glover at 825-6228 at the Office of Information Technology or contact your instructor for the class.

Technical Requirements

If you are taking a class that is fully online or meets on campus once a week or less, your success will depend on meeting the technical requirements and having some technical abilities.

Here is a list of requirements:

  • A PC running Windows 2000 or higher (preferably XP or higher) or an iMac, PowerMac, or PowerPC running OS 8.1 or higher.
  • A Sound card with speakers or headphones (required) and microphone (recommended).
  • Internet Access (required). If using a dial-up connection, at least a 28.8k modem is recommended.
  • A Java-enabled Web browser: Netscape 4.x, Internet Explorer 5.0, or newer versions of either (required). (Internet Service providers with proprietary browsers, such as Prodigy, or some versions of AOL, may have difficulty with some Java based activities. Consult your Internet Service Provider for details.)
  • An e-mail program, and word processing software.
  • Virus protection software.
  • A printer (highly recommended).
  • Access to a scanner or fax machine may be required for some courses.

We wish you success in your studies at the Fort Valley State University this year!
