Steps to Applying to Fort Valley State University
All undergraduate applicants for admission must submit an application and a $20 nonrefundable application processing fee. If you are eligible for a SAT/ACT fee waiver, print the Request for Admission Application Fee Waiver Form, complete the student section, have your guidance counselor complete the authorized official section, and mail the completed form, along with the original SAT/ACT voucher (copies will not be accepted), to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
All supporting documentation and the application must be submitted by the deadline for the term you wish to enroll. An admissions decision will not be rendered until receipt of a complete application. Official transcripts and test scores must be sent to FVSU directly from the sending school or agency. Official transcripts are required from all colleges attended unless you are applying as a non-degree post baccalaureate student, which only requires the baccalaureate transcript.

- Application for Admission
- $20 Application Fee (unless eligible for ACT/SAT fee waiver)
- Official High School Transcripts (high school students and transfer students with less than 30 transferable hours of credit)
- All College Transcripts (transfer students)
- Official ACT/SAT Test Scores (high school students and transfer students with less than 30 transferable hours of credit)
- Immunization Records (must be submitted prior to starting classes)
Admission Application Deadlines
The FVSU application and all supporting documentation must be received in the Office of Recruitment and Admissions by the stated deadlines below:
Fall semester – June 15
Spring semester – November 1
Summer semester – April 1
Online Degree Programs
Recently enacted federal regulations requiring enforcement of state laws regarding the delivery of distance education degrees, programs and courses to students whose physical presence is in a state other than Georgia may limit Fort Valley State University’s ability to offer online opportunities to these students. If you wish to enroll in one of our online offerings and are located in a state other than Georgia, please inquire before enrolling to determine if we have acquired permission to offer online courses in your state. Other types of inquiries should be sent to the academic department offering the online courses).
International applicants have additional requirements for admission. Please review the FVSU website for additional information.
If you plan to apply for financial aid, be sure to list your social security number on your application. The financial aid deadline is March 1.
Housing and Residential Life
If you plan to apply for housing, you must submit the Housing Application and $200 room reservation fee by the July 1 priority deadline. You can download a copy of the Housing Application from the Residential Life webpage. You must be admitted before applying for housing.
Verification of Lawful Presence
In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.3.4, all applicants who are accepted for admission or readmission to Fort Valley State University and who seek to be classified as in-state for tuition purposes, will be required to provide validation of residency and lawful presence in both the State of Georgia and the United States. Acceptance to Fort Valley State University may be delayed until lawful presence is verified.
The U.S. Department of Education will validate the lawful presence of any student who completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); therefore, if you are applying for federal financial aid, it will not be necessary for Fort Valley State University to perform additional verification of your residency status. Otherwise, you will be required to submit one of the following documents to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions
- Certified U.S. Birth Certificate (no photocopies)
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240)
- Current U.S. Passport
- Georgia Driver’s License (issued after 1/1/2008)
- Georgia I.D. Card (issued after 1/1/2008)
- U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issue by the Department of State (DS-1350)
- U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS Form N-560 or N-561)
- U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS Form N-550 or N-570)
