Center for Retention Services
Dear Students,
Welcome to the Center for Retention Services' web page. The Center for Retention Services, which is the university’s primary entity for student academic support and assessments, has a mission of providing for each of you efficient/effective academic advising, academic counseling, professional testing/assessment services and systematic tutorial services. Our goal is for all of our students to have a successful matriculation.
Each of us, the dedicated staff and well-qualified peer tutors, has made it our personal responsibility to assist you in graduating in four years. While we are committed to your success, you have to be equally committed and clear about your life’s goal. Yes, college is fun (and we want you to have a good time); however, there is more to it, such as meeting new people, learning new things and growing as young adults. Your primary goal should be to graduate in four years. President C. V. Troup, second president of Fort Valley State, had a very appropriate phrase for students at Fort Valley: "Don’t major in the minors." His words nearly 60 years ago are as timely today as when he first said them.
With all of that in mind, we look forward to you utilizing all of our services-from the various labs, (Win, Math, and Reading) and our tutoring sessions, to the most knowledgeable academic advisors and counselors. We are here to move you to academic and professional greatness! Our office is located in the historic Royal C. Peabody Building.
Again, welcome!
