Veterans Roll Call

Event Date:
Mon, 2012-11-12 14:00

Georgia and U.S. veterans will be honored at two special events at Fort Valley State University in November. Ft. Benning Garrison Commander COL Jeffrey Fletcher, son of former FVSU Military Science Professor Tyrone Fletcher, will speak on Nov. 8 at an event organized by the FVSU Department of Military Science. The Nov. 8 ROTC Veterans Day program is at 11 a.m. in the Pettigrew Center.

FVSU will participate in a national moment of silence on Nov. 12 honoring our service members, and students will participate in a roll call, reading names of Georgia service members who died while serving our country. The Political Science Club, ROTC, and the Military Resource Center are sponsoring this event. It is coordinated to coincide with similar events and a moment of silence all over Georgia and the U.S.

FVSU’s Nov. 12 roll call ceremony will honor Hayes Clayton, Jr., an FVSU alumnus and former ROTC cadet, who was killed in Iraq, and Al Knox, Jr. FVSC Junior Class President of 1942, who was killed while serving our country during World War II.

The Nov. 12 program also will take place in the Pettigrew Center, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and lasting approximately an hour. The moment of silence is at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
