The Chemistry Lab Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory facilities, including coordinating and teaching Chemistry labs and tutoring students in general and organic chemistry.


• Prepares lab sections of various chemistry courses (including set-up and disassembly)
• Instructs and supervises chemistry labs
• Tutors chemistry students
• Enforces laboratory regulations
• Handles general logistics of laboratory management (supply orders, equipment maintenance, and inventory)
• Ensures a safe and functional laboratory environment
• Ensures proper function of laboratory equipment
• Schedules and coordinates equipment maintenance
• Implements and enforces laboratory safety and etiquette policies
• Maintains lab documents
• Reviews lab procedures and recommends measures to improve efficiency and to reduce costs
• Effectively communicates with students, department chair, students, faculty and staff
• Supports educational efforts in the STEM Center
• Performs community outreach with local elementary through high schools
• Assists with Science fairs, Science Olympiad and recruitment events
• Performs other duties as assigned


• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chemistry
• Three (3) years’ experience working in a related field
• Experience using Microsoft computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Valid driver’s license
• Considerable knowledge of chemistry and chemistry lab equipment
• Knowledge of current chemistry laboratory safety procedures
• Knowledge of safe chemical storage and disposal procedures
• Ability to engage students in active learning of the discipline and in critical thinking
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Master’s degree in Chemistry
• Prior experience working in a university setting
• Prior experience teaching laboratory courses
• Mastery of the teaching discipline

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

Working conditions
• Work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
• Some evenings/nights and weekend work
• Occasional travel to local schools and to attend meetings/conferences
• Work is done in a climate controlled environment

Physical requirements
• Physical activities include be sitting, standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 pounds), kneeling, reaching, and bending
• Ability to tolerate the standards smells associated with a chemistry laboratory
