March 17, 2015 – Brandon Beaty, a senior majoring in plant biotechnology, is our featured student in our dreaming and doing spotlight this month.
The Corpus Christi, Texas native has won several major awards for his research into tomato volatiles (chemicals responsible for the taste, sweetness and flavor of the fruit). Most recently, the FVSU student won first place in oral presentation at the Emerging Researcher National Conference for his research. Last year, the student won first-place award for best paper oral presentation at the Fourth Annual International Conference on Biotech in Dubai, Abu Dhabi.
Beaty and Dr. Sarwan Dhir, director of FVSU’s Center for Biotechnology, also visited the University of the Philippines-Los Banos as part of a planning trip for the new Research Experience for Undergraduates in Biotechnology program.
