• Received $11,900 from Title III funds for “Establishing an Interdisciplinary Journal at FVSU,” in 2009. Co-investigators J. Yasin, F. van Hartesveldt, and B. Keith Murphy.
• Awarded a “President’s Research Mini-Grant” in 2007. This $2,000 grant funded a portion of my travels to Oxford University in 2008 to present a juried paper and to engage in research in 16th century Schismatic Rhetoric in Oxford’s 403 year-old Bodleian Library.
• Received $24,000 Faculty Research Grant from National Endowment of the Humanities. Grant comes from the "Extending the Reach Research Program for Faculty Research at Minority-Oriented Institutions." Research project: Collection and Analysis of Black Comic Strips: 1920 - 1960. • Taught the first fully on-line course ENGL 2153 “The Grammar of Literary Criticism” for FVSU.
• Was the first instructor to include the regular use of podcasts in both online and regular classes at FVSU.
• Departmental webmaster, www.eng.as.fvsu.edu 1998 – 2004. This task required me to not only web-publish public relations material for the department but to host online versions of student publications and newsletters.

• Member Institutional Promotion and Tenure Appeals Committee 2007 – 2010.
• Webmaster, Fort Valley State University’s WebCT server. 1998 – 2002. Involved students in the maintenance of the web site. In this position I was not only responsible for the day-to-day performance of the site; I frequently served as the mediator between students and faculty when problems arose.
• Director of Speech and Debate (Forensics) team. 1995 – 2002. During my six years as director, over fifty students participated in the program. Those students qualified to compete in six straight state championship tournaments (producing two state championship awards for top speaker) and qualified for the national championships five times. I was named Georgia’s coach of the year in 1999 and won the National Forensic Association’s Lifetime Service to Forensics Award (The highest award in the activity) in 2001, my last year as a coach.

Service to the Community
• Director of bunniwerks, a not-for-profit domestic rabbit and bird rescue. In addition to sheltering animals in danger, bunniwerks provides animal care, rescue, and welfare seminars to groups ranging from elementary schools, libraries, retirement communities, law enforcement officers, and other community organizations. Bunniwerks also operates an information web server at www.bunniwerks.org. FVSU students routinely assist with seminars and presentations which also allows them to provide service to the community.
• Served as webmaster for Fort Valley Brownfields (a Superfund Site) project. Involved students in design and implementation of web site. 2000 – 2003.
• Served as webmaster and content provider for Macon Knights (www.maconknights.com ). Involved students in design and implementation of web site. 2000 – 2006.
• Served as webmaster for Macon Mud (www.mudabblers.com). Involved students in design and implementation of web site. (2002 – 2009).
• Currently developing web site for Peach and Crawford County Boys and Girls Club. (www.peachbagc.org). (2004 – 2010).
• Served numerous times as judge for area oratorical contests.
• Served as judge for the Macon Telegraph’s Golden Eagle Awards, 2008 to 2012.
