University Scholarships

Scholarship Information

Fort Valley State University Foundation Scholarships vary in award amounts. Awards are made at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee based on the student’s grade point average, SAT/ACT scores, community involvement, and the availability of funds. The Foundation Scholarships (Presidential, Legacy, and Pathway Grant) are applicable only to first time freshmen entering fall semester.

All scholarships (excluding Pathway Grant) have special requirements for renewal and maintenance. For Additional information about department scholarships, please contact the various academic departments.

To apply for the University Foundation Scholarships (Presidential Scholarship, Legacy Scholarship, or Pathway Grant) please print, complete and submit the application. The deadline for the University Foundation Scholarships is March 1st. Applications must be postmarked by March 1st.

Scholarship Awards

Presidential Scholarship - Covers tuition, fees, room and board, and a book allowance of up to $500 per semester. The scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters excluding summer terms .

  • Apply and be accepted for admission to Fort Valley State University
  • Completed FAFSA for entering Academic Year by March 1st (FVSU School Code: 001566)
  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA based on CPC courses and possess no deficiencies (missing high school curriculum requirements)
  • Have a SAT Combined Score of 1260 (Critical Reading & Math only) or higher or ACT Score of 28 (English & Math) or higher
  • Display good citizenship
  • Submit a biographical sketch and an application that highlights extracurricular activities, career aspirations and community service activities

Legacy Scholarship - Covers room and board. The scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters excluding summer terms.

  • Apply and be accepted for admission to Fort Valley State University
  • Must be a Georgia Resident
  • Completed FAFSA for entering Academic Year by March 1st (FVSU School Code: 001566)
  • Have a minimum 3.3 GPA based on CPC courses and possess no deficiencies (missing high school curriculum requirements)
  • Have a SAT Combined Score of 1110 (Critical Reading & Math only) or higher or ACT Score of 24 (English & Math) or higher
  • Display good citizenship

Pathway Grant (Awarded for one year only) - The award covers institutional charges up to $1500 per semester.

  • Be admitted to the University
  • Must be a Georgia Resident
  • Completed FAFSA for entering Academic Year by March 1st
  • Have a minimum 2.8 GPA based on CPC courses as computed by the FVSU Office of Admission
  • Have a SAT Combined Score of 950 (Critical Reading & Math only) or higher or ACT Score of 20 (English & Math) or higher
  • Display good citizenship

James H. Porter Scholarship - The award covers institutional charges up to $1250 per semester. Students receiving Porter Scholarships will be known as Porter Scholars. The following criteria will be used in the selection of Porter Scholars:

  1. Must be Georgia residents.
  2. Must be full-time undergraduate students and must earn at least 30 semester hours per academic year.
  3. Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (only CPC classes considered) and a minimum SAT score of 1000 (critical reading and mathematics) or equivalent ACT score.
  4. Students with prior college attendance must meet the above criteria and have a minimum GPA of at least 3.30.
  5. Renewal is not automated. Students must apply each year. Awards may be renewed if funding permits and students have maintained a GPA of at least 3.00. Awards, if renewed, are for a maximum of 4 consecutive years. Porter awards are not available for summer terms.
  6. Must submit a Porter Scholarship Application.
