Fitness Program


Mission Statement

It is the philosophy of the Fort Valley State University Fitness Program to provide programs and instructions that improve the physical, emotional, social and moral development of our adult family. We understand that a disciplined approach to fitness and personal knowledge about health is vital.

Director Donald Moore and Fitness Coordinator Desmond Williams provide support for adults on campus and in the community that leads to success in life. A variety of fitness programs are offered to meet participants’ needs.

Membership plans available are 5-month, 10-month, and 12-month options; plans include options for individual, individual and a companion, a family of 3, a family of 4, and corporate groups (5 or more persons from the same corporation or organization). Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Children younger than 13 are not permitted to use the Fitness Center Weight Room but are welcome in other areas. We accept personal checks (ACH – Check Draft), personnel action forms, and major credit cards (Visa/Mastercard).

5-Month Plan: Aug. 16 – Dec. 15
10-Month Plan: Aug. 16 – May 18
12-Month Plan: Aug. 18 – July 25

The Fort Valley State University Fitness Center offers members the opportunity to take advantage of services including group exercise classes, cardio equipment, free weights, individual machine weights, indoor track, aqua-aerobics and racquetball.

FITNESS/AEROBICS

Group Aerobics Classes
Afternoon / Evening Aerobic Workout:
End your day with an invigorating workout. Get it all – cardio, strength, flexibility and fun! (60 minutes)

Pilates: Focuses on the abdominal muscles, the lower back and the buttocks. By strengthening the abdominal and core muscles, the lower back is protected.

Aqua – Aerobics Workout: A high-energy total body workout designed to increase cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance and flexibility in a low-impact environment. Resistance tubing, aqua steps & other aqua equipment will be used for a total body workout. (60 minutes)

WALKING/JOGGING TRACKS

This indoor track provides a safe atmosphere for members to walk or run, especially during changing weather conditions. It is 1/7 of a mile in length. Seven laps equal one mile.

WEIGHT TRAINING

For those who like resistance training, the 2,279 square-foot room is fully equipped with more than 35 pieces of exercise machines and free weight equipment. Our weight room is filled with equipment specifically chosen for quality and efficiency from highly brand names, including Schwinn, SportsArt, Precour USA, CyBex, Universal and York. The weight room holds a capacity of 44 people.

The Fort Valley Fitness Center is equipped with:
Strength Equipment, Cardio Equipment, Leg Press, Treadmills, Chest Press, Stair Climbers, Abdominal Crunch, Elliptical Trainers, Dual Axis Lat Pull Down/Row, Climber, Bicep Curl, Rowing Machine, Low Back Extension, Stationary Bicycles, Shoulder Press

Three racquetball courts are available.
