FVSU Benefit Soirée

FVSU organizers cancel benefit soirée

Feb. 6, 2014 – A benefit soirée to help raise money to support Fort Valley State University students has been cancelled.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Atlanta’s Commerce Club, was set to feature a performance by saxophonist Mike Phillips and drawings to win Neiman Marcus gifts, excursions and other luxury items.

Kristie Kenney, director of the FVSU Foundation, Inc., attributed the cancellation to slow ticket sales.

“It is with great sadness that we have to cancel the FVSU Benefit Soirée,” Kenney said.

According to the event coordinator and FVSU Foundation, Inc. board member, Thomas W. Dortch Jr., the “party with a purpose” was an opportunity for Atlanta-area communities to invest in FVSU students and to learn more about the institution’s new president, Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, and his initiatives.

Organizers did not want to proceed with the event if it was not profitable.

To support student scholarships, donations can still be made to the FVSU Foundation, Inc. by calling (478) 825-6474.
