Fort Valley State University’s Wildcats will open the football season on the road against the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s defending champion Miles College Golden Bears in the Labor Day Golden Classic game at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. on September 4.  The game will be nationally televised on ASPiRE TV, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ASPiRE TV is available in the Fort Valley area on DIRECTV, channel 381.

Game tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on game day at the Legion Field box office (400 Graymont Avenue West, Birmingham, Ala. 35204). Legion Field has a clear bag policy and this will limit the size and types of bags that may be brought in by fans. The intent is to enhance public safety while minimizing time spent searching bags at gate security checkpoints.

“We still have a few positions we are trying to fill. Scrimmages held in August allowed us to evaluate the players. We are waiting for some players to step up and claim some of these open positions,” said FVSU’s head football coach, Kevin Porter.

“We started watching film on Miles weeks ago, just trying to figure out their personality and how they operate offensively and defensively,” stated Porter.

This will be Fort Valley State’s first appearance in the Labor Day Golden Classic and the Wildcats’ first game against Miles since 2010. FVSU went 5-4 last season and is led by first-year head coach Kevin Porter. The Wildcats were the No. 2 scoring team in the SIAC last season and was also second in sacks.
