September 26, 2014 – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition recently invited Fort Valley State University’s president, Dr. Ivelaw Griffith, to join its Georgia Advisory Council.
The USGLC is a broad-based network of 400 businesses, non-governmental organizations, and military, faith-based and civic leaders working to support American global engagement.
“The invitation to serve on this council reflects recognition by others that FVSU can make a valuable contribution to international affairs in general and the international education in particular,” Griffith said. “Moreover, it provides an opportunity for me to position our university to benefit from the wealth of relationships and resources in the Global Leadership Council as we pursue our global agenda.”
The coalition, which was created in 1995, includes membership from organizations and business that include Coca Cola, CARE, Boeing, AIPAC, Caterpillar, GE, Mercy Corps, Microsoft, Save the Children and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The organization works to educate the American public and policymakers about the importance of investing in diplomacy and development, along with defense, in constructing foreign policy. Additionally, the USGLC protects national security by fighting terrorism, stabilizing weak and fragile states, combating the proliferation of weapons in order to promote global stability. It seeks to build economic prosperity for international markets through the growth of micro-enterprises and expanding exports.
Griffith’s duties will include supporting U.S. global leadership, reaching out to congressional members to teach them about the importance of the international affairs budget and helping to identify other key opinion leaders within the state.
FVSU’s president will attend high-profile events in the state and Washington, D.C. where he will speak with foreign policy and national security experts. He also will network with other state and local leaders and have the latest information about foreign affairs meetings.
