FVSU to hold memorial service/candle-lighting ceremony for student Taylor Moore

September 4, 2015 – Fort Valley State University will hold a memorial service for senior mass communications major Taylor Moore on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at 4 p.m. in the C.W. Pettigrew Center, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony along the Wildcat Plaza near the Greek Walk.

Moore, 22 years old, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 3, in a single-car accident near the main campus in Fort Valley, Ga.

FVSU Campus Police Chief Kenneth Morgan said Moore was driving along the south end of Carver Drive in Peach County when the accident occurred.

The Powder Springs, Ga. resident was a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and an FVSU peer counselor.

Dr. Jessica Bailey, FVSU interim president, called Moore’s death’s tragic, adding ,“We are devastated by this loss as the death of any member of Fort Valley State’s community impacts us all. On behalf of the campus community, we offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

The university is providing grief counseling for Moore’s classmates and peers from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Office of Student health and Counseling Services located in the Florence J. Hunt Wellness Center.
