April 1, 2015 – Next month, the university will say farewell to 23 employees that have dedicated their best to Fort Valley State University’s campus and its students. The FVSU Staff Council is sponsoring a retirement banquet for retiring faculty and staff at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the Pettigrew Center.
Joy Moten-Thomas, FVSU’s staff council chair, said the last retirement banquet was held on April 13, 2012. The group wanted to reactivate the retirement banquet to honor employees for their service to the campus.
“The retirement banquet is nothing new, but it has been offline for so long, we wanted to find a way to bring back an event that the council supported and that employees looked forward to,” Moten-Thomas said. According to the staff council chair, the banquet is supported each year with proceeds from the university’s annual Pancake Breakfast.
The 2015 retirement banquet honors employees that formally retired from July 1, 2012 until June 30, 2015. According to the staff council chair, 43 employees were eligible to be honored at this year’s banquet, but only 23 decided to attend this year’s ceremony. During the banquet, each retiree will be honored by their current division leaders from the Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Plant Operations, and External Affairs.
Tickets for the banquet cost $30, and may be purchased by contacting Patricia Barrett, administrative assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs, at (478) 825-6330.
A commemorative souvenir program will also be provided.
