Fort Valley State University has a rich history and a tradition of academic excellence.
Fort Valley State University will host two recruitment sessions on the Caribbean island of Barbados to share information with prospective students about the outstanding educational experience provided at the university. Located in Fort Valley, Georgia, FVSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award undergraduate, master’s and educational specialist degrees.
Fort Valley State University president Dr. Ivelaw Griffith and his administrative team members, including Dr. Govind Kannan, dean of the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences, and Technology, and Calandra Wright, director of admissions, will share information with prospective students about the outstanding educational experience provided at the university, recruit Barbadian students, and build relationships with government and key stakeholders on the island.
Griffith said the institution’s first international recruitment and engagement trip is a cause to celebrate.
“This mission is critical, as it is our university’s first ever international recruitment and engagement trip, and to a place with exceptional students whose educational and economic dreams we can help come true,” Griffith said. “During the trip, we will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Barbados Community College to facilitate recruitment and other collaboration with them, and hold discussions with Codrington College, the University of the West Indies, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, among other officials, all with a review to enhancing our teaching and research collaboration in the region. I’m excited about the trip and its outcomes.”
The inaugural trip will include a press conference at The Courtyard by Marriott on Monday, November 10, at 8 a.m. This will be immediately followed by a stakeholders’ meeting and breakfast at the same venue from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. A private cocktail reception will be held on November 10 from 6 to 8 pm.
On Tuesday, November 11, the team will host a Secondary School InfoSession at The St. Michael School where students from across the island will be provided with information on Fort Valley State University during the session that will run from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. There will also be a public infoSession at Island Inn Hotel from 5 to 7 p.m. that is free and open to the public.
