July 27, 2011 – Fort Valley State University Cross Country/Track & Field Head CoachEllakisha O’Kelley took her coaching knowledge to another level. Last week, she completed the USA Track & Field Coaching Education Level 2 Program on July 16 in Atlanta.
Held on the Georgia Institute of Technology’s campus, the five-day course provided coaches with a more advanced, in-depth knowledge in an event group of their choosing.O’Kelley received her Level 2 Certification in the sprints, hurdles and relays grouping.
Course instruction was divided into two segments: sports science concepts and training principles.
“Both segments were extremely informative,” O’Kelley said. “The sports science instruction enhanced my understanding of sports psychology, pedagogy and sports medicine, and the training principles session clarified my approach to student-athlete training in my chosen areas.”
The Level 2 Certification by O’Kelley is further evidence of her indelible footprint on theFVSU Cross Country and Track & Field Programs. After the completion of just two years at the helm, O’Kelley’s résumé includes the following:
•Teams have broken 14 FVSU Track & Field Records;
•Produced 19 Track & Field All-Americans;
•Produced 23 NCAA National Qualifiers;
•Women’s Track & Field Team finished 5th in the nation (Division II) 2010
•Men’s Track & Field Team finished 23rd in the nation (Division II) 2010
•Produced 25 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions
O’Kelley is also a member of the USATF Coaches Advisory Committee.
