Health and Physical Education Program


The Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education prepares teacher candidates to obtain preschool through high school certification by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The program of study provides a strong base in the sciences, study of various content fields that comprise Health and Physical Education , and numerous field experiences in which various teaching strategies and teaching styles can be practiced in a real class setting.

Entry into the HPE program is based on the following:

  • A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher, with no grade below a “C” on any attempted core hours
  • 50 completed semester hours of core courses
  • Passing score on both section of Regents’ Exams
  • Passing scores on the Praxis I or GACE basic skills exams
  • (1,000 on SAT verbal and math; 43 on ACT English and math)
  • Completion of pre-professional block courses, EDUC 2110P and pre-professional block portfolio
  • Acceptable background check
  • Acceptable rating on three dispositions instruments
  • Acceptable interview
  • Acceptable writing sample
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Proof of membership in GAESP or SPAGE student organizations
