The table below will provide important information regarding applicants who are required to take the COMPASS before an admission decision can be rendered.
COMPASS Placement and Admission Testing Guidelines
|SAT/Verbal score below 430 or ACT/English score below 17||Applicant must take the COMPASS Reading and English/Writing exams|
|SAT/Math score below 400 or ACT/Math score below 17||Applicant must take COMPASS Math exam|
|CPC (College Preparatory Curriculum deficiency) in English and/or mathematics||If the deficiency is in English, applicant must take the COMPASS in Reading and English/Writing. If the deficiency is in mathematics, the applicant must take the COMPASS in math.|
|Non-traditional applicants||Applicant must take the COMPASS in English/Writing , Reading , and Math|
|International students (without SAT/ACT scores and/or with CPC deficiency)||Applicant must take the COMPASS English/Writing, Reading and Math|
The COMPASS Minimum Score Requirements for Admission to Fort Valley State University:
To be considered for admission, applicants must obtain the COMPASS minimum score requirements. Applicants must not receive the COMPASS minimum score requirement in all three areas of Learning Support as presented in the following table.

The COMPASS placement scores required to exempt enrollment in Learning Support courses are presented in the following table.
The applicant must register online for a COMPASS testing appointment. For registration, the applicant must use the FVSU-issued ID number. For applicants for the 2013-2014 Academic year, the COMPASS will be administered on selected Fridays and Saturdays throughout the Fall Semester 2013, Spring Semester 2014, and Summer Semester 2014. - Math score of at least 32-36
- Reading score of at least 66-75
- English score of at least 50-59
On Test Day
Applicants are required to bring a valid school or government-issued photo ID (school ID, driver’s license, passport or military ID) for admittance to the testing session. Electronic devices are not permitted.
