Teacher's Retirement System

(Required participation) - All regular employees of Fort Valley State University who work one-half time or more are required to participate in the Teacher's Retirement System of Georgia. Membership in the TRS requires a contribution of 5.53% of the employee's gross salary while the University contributes 10.28%. The employee contribution is sheltered from federal and state taxes.

Social Security

(Required participation) - All employees of Fort Valley State University are required to participate in the Social Security system. The deduction from gross salary is 7.65% (1.45% FICA/MEDICARE and 6.20% FICA).

Health Insurance

(Optional) - Eligible Fort Valley State University employees and dependents may participate in a comprehensive group health plan. The cost to the employee is based on selection of single coverage or family coverage. The contributions are made on a pre-tax basis.

Dental Insurance

(Optional) - Eligible Fort Valley State University employees and dependents may participate in a comprehensive group dental plan. The cost to the employee is based on selection of single coverage or family coverage. These contributions are made on a pre-tax basis.

Life Insurance

(Optional) - All regular employees who are at least half-time will be provided with $25, 000 "basic" life insurance coverage at no cost to the employee. Additional supplemental coverage and dependent life insurance coverage is also available. Enrollment in supplemental and dependent plans must be made with 31 days of employment.

Holidays

Fort Valley State University observes twelve (12) official holidays each year. Specific holiday schedules are announced annually.

Annual Leave

A regular employee working one-half time or more is eligible to earn annual leave/vacation. Full-time employees earn annual leave at the rate of 1 1/4 days per month for the first five years of service. Annual leave is prorated for less than full-time work commitment. Vacation time shall be taken at times mutually acceptable to the employee and his/her supervisor.

Sick Leave

A regular employee working one-half time or more is eligible to earn sick leave. Full-time employees earn sick leave at the rate of one (1) day for each month of service. Sick leave is prorated for less than full-time work commitment. Sick leave is not compensable upon termination.

Other Leave

Other absences from work such as sick leave without pay, maternity leave, educational leave without pay, military leave with pay, military leave without pay, court day and voting are available.

Credit Union

(Optional) - All regular employees are eligible for membership in Robins Federal Credit Union. Deposits may be made by payroll deduction.

Workers Compensation

All employees of Fort Valley State University are covered by the Georgia Workers Compensation Act. This act provides payment for medical hospital expenses as well as disability compensation in the event and employee is injured while performing job duties.

Parking

Employees must park in designated areas and there is a fee charged each semester.
