Responsible to the Associate Dean for Extension; supervises agriculture and natural resources state and county staff; works closely with faculty and staff in all phases of the College of agriculture, Home Economics and Allied Programs. Provides administrative and program leadership for developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive statewide Extension program for small and limited resource farmers. Responsibilities also include budget review; personnel administration; staff development; employee relations; liaison with local governments, state and federal agencies, and nongovernmental organizations; supervision of clerical, technical, specialists and county staff; and knowledge and ability to obtain and manage multi-institutional grants and external funds.
Doctorate degree in an agriculture field or an appropriate agriculture related field required. Strong demonstrated Extension programming and administrative leadership skills. An understanding of and ability to communicate with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated abilities in the area of planning, organizing, motivating and team building. Substantial knowledge of organization, operation, philosophy and goals of Extension. Ability to be creative and innovative in design and implementation of effective educational programs. A comprehensive understanding of higher education, knowledge of and experience in the land-grant community, and demonstrated capability to cultivate relationships with local, state, regional, national and international constituents.
