Full time (12-month) non-tenure track position with primarily research responsibility. The appointee is expected to develop a creative and productive research program in forage production/utilization that addresses issues of importance to the small ruminant industry (principally goats) in Georgia and the southern United Stated. Research topics may include development of year round grazing systems, production and use of alternative forage browse species for goats, pre and post harvest forage quality and grazing/forage behavior and preference studies with small ruminants. Development of a cooperative research program with other departments at the University and with outside institutions and USDA. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program with a strong record of publications and extramural funding, and to assist goat producers with forage related management issues.
A Ph.D. in animal science, agronomy, plan science, or closely related discipline with specialization in plan herbivore interaction, grazing behavior in small ruminants, and/or forages. Supporting qualifications and/or experience may include conducting forage evaluate trials with goats, forage quality analyses, and grazing and forage preference studies in goats. Evidence of ability to attract extramural funding willingness to produce and publish scientific data is essential.
