The College of Agriculture, Family Science, and Technology at Fort Valley State University is seeking applications for a creative, committed individual to fill a vacant position, Extension Program Leader for Family and Consumer Sciences.

Responsibilities: 

The Extension Program Leader - Family & Consumer Sciences will report to the Dean (who is also the Extension Administrator) through the Associate Dean for Extension, and will be mainly responsible for leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of Extension educational programs and services in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). This involves:
(a) leading a diverse FCS specialist staff,
(b) assessing program needs based on inputs from county leadership and the public,
(c) developing a plan-of-work (commensurate with institutional resources) to address identified educational needs,
(d) reviewing and making budget recommendations and acquiring budget augmentation through grant funds,
(e) coordinating the FCS plans-of-work with the UGA Cooperative Extension,
(f) keeping abreast with developments in the FCS academic area,
(g) maintaining close cooperation with county personnel, (h) assessing and addressing training/staff development needs,
(i) assessing needs and developing print and audio-visual materials,
(j) supervising and managing specialist, county and support staff (as assigned), and
(k) serving as the institution’s chief representative and liaison on matters related to Extension FCS matters.

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will have a Doctorate Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or a closely related academic area. Exceptional applicants with a Master’s degree will also be considered.

Candidates must have:
- effective oral and written communication skills
strong planning, organizational, and self-motivation skills and be proactive
- the ability to accept executive responsibilities and work independently and as a member of an Extension leadership team
- an understanding of the U.S. Land Grant University system
- a valid driver’s license
- the willingness and ability to make frequent visits to selected rural Georgia counties
