The College of Agriculture, Family Science, and Technology at Fort Valley State University is seeking applications for a creative, committed individual to fill the part-time position (20 hours per week) of Extension Program Assistant - Equine Program.

Responsibilities: 

This employee will report to the Associate Dean for Extension through the Extension Equine Program Manager, and will be primarily responsible for assisting in managing equine facilities, equipment and animals (to include feeding), training animals to support riding lessons and equestrian sports, assisting in providing riding lessons to university students and the public, assisting in coaching and providing lessons to students for collegiate equestrian sports, assisting in hosting equine and equestrian events on-campus, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

A high school diploma or GED is required, but some postsecondary education is preferred. In addition, demonstrated experience in horsemanship and equestrian sports are mandatory. Candidates must have; (a) knowledge and successful experience in working with, training and caring for horses or other equine animals; (b) effective oral and written communication skills; (c) ability to work effectively with a diverse staff, students, extension staff and clientele; (d) willingness and skills to effectively coach students for equestrian sports, and accompany students to collegiate equestrian events, some during the weekends; (e) willingness and skills to provide riding lessons to students and the public; (f) ability to work independently and as a member of an extension team; (g) willingness to assist in operating an agricultural arena and occasionally assist in hosting weekend events, and (h) a valid driver’s license.
