This position is housed in the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Cooperative Extension department under the direction of the Program Leader for Family Consumer Sciences. The Energy Educator will plan, develop, implement and evaluate the Georgia Residential Energy Education Network (GREEN) project in a 20-county coverage area.

The GREEN program is newly funded by USDA- National Institute of Food Agriculture (NIFA) and is designed to provide residential energy consumers with information about the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficient practices and available technologies.

A valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle are required for official duty travel. Reimbursement for approved official travel expenses will be provided according to FVSU travel policy and guidelines.

Responsibilities: 

• Assist with the day-to-day operations of the GREEN project including daily activities with energy providers and the general public to ensure smooth delivery and execution of the project
• Analyze and interpret technical data and communicate to low-to-moderate income audiences
• Assist with the development and dissemination of educational materials, consumer energy kits, energy curriculum, workshops and trainings
• Articulate GREEN mission and goals to designated communities and develop relationships with stakeholders to ensure the project’s mission is reached
• Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective programming techniques for community involvement and engagement
• Coordinate/monitor the completion of energy assessments/audits in targeted counties
• Utilize social media, webinars, and websites to coordinate educational outreach and project promotion
• Use the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future educational opportunities and techniques used in implementing programs
• Assist in collecting and analyzing evaluation data
• Travel (statewide) in support of the program
• Monitor county activities for adherence to scope of work and educational materials needed to ensure project deadlines are met
• All other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Housing, Environmental Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or closely related field; Master’s preferred
• Broad base of energy knowledge
• Extensive use of Microsoft Office programs
• Familiarity with 1890 & 1862 Land-Grant System of Cooperative Extension and its educational mission
• Knowledge of land grant system and USDA/NIFA
• Experience working with educational program and curriculum development with an emphasis on residential energy including audits, conservation, efficiency or similar areas
• Experience interacting with diverse types of individuals
• Excellent analytical skills
• Strong oratory skills in order to facilitate and conduct trainings
• Strong customer service skills
• Superior writing and communication skills
• Strong negotiation and consensus-building skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and tasks simultaneously
• Ability to accomplish objectives in both individual and group-settings
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Experience in Cooperative Extension System and/or grant management is a plus
• Experience with adult education and proven track record in developing creative and innovative educational programming for adult audiences

• Ability to utilize up-to-date / current research-based information and data in teaching and stay abreast of emerging issues
