Professor and Department Chair - Early Childhood Special Education
The Early Childhood Department has an emphasis area in Special Education at Fort Valley State University and prepares undergraduates and graduate students for careers as teachers and program administrators serving infants, toddlers and preschool children with the full range of disabilities and their families. The department seeks individuals with background in Early Childhood Special Education, and with a familiarity with the principles and philosophy of family-centered services, diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. In particular, the College of Education seeks individuals with expertise needed to include a focus on Pre-Kindergarten curriculum development (i.e., early literacy, math, science, and social-emotional development) and school readiness to prevent failure when young students transition to Kindergarten. Candidates for this position need to reflect an ability to train personnel to assume a variety of positions within schools and agencies as teachers, leaders, advocates, and program managers. In addition, candidates must have an active record of scholarship, research and development related to their specialty area, and evidence of external support for these activities.
Doctorate in Special Education or a related field, professional administrative and teaching experience at the university level, and experience in coordination and fiscal management of department programs are required.
