The Agricultural Marketing Specialist provides leadership for development, implantation and evaluation of state-wide educational programs to improve decision making of agricultural producers. Specific duties include: Providing leadership for locating or developing new or niche markets for small and part-time farmers; developing and delivering programs in cooperation with other university specialist and county Extension staff; coordination program development, implementation and evaluation with other relevant agencies and institutions; developing print and electronic media materials to support program implementation; developing and conducting in-service training and other developmental programs for county Extension personnel; organizing tours, field days, workshops and other programs to meet identified needs of clientele; working with businesses to identify target markets for specific products, including aquaculture and goat meat production. Possibility of some teaching responsibility.
Develop and implement a successful program in aquaculture research and education with a concentration on warm-season fish and crustacean aquaculture; develop and enhance catfish and tilapia production as a viable economic entities in Georgia; evaluate other fish and crustaceans (including marine shrimp and freshwater prawns) for adaptation to culture; provide support to producers who experience disease and other production problems; and establish cooperative projects and relationships with other aquaculture scientist and industry groups.
Master’s Degree required, Ph. D. preferred in Agricultural Economics or closely related field; excellent communications skills; knowledge of agricultural marketing; ability to work effectively with agricultural clientele and in multi-disciplinary terms; skill in creative use of computers in educational programs; experience in developing marketing surveys and analyses to determine acceptability of products; knowledge of the Cooperative Extension and Land Grant University systems preferred.
