July 18, 2012 – New Wildcats and their parents braved hot, sultry temperatures to attend a fast-track program at Fort Valley State University that will prepare them for their first year of college life. The university held it’s second of three New Student Orientation sessions on July 13. Participants learned about academic programs, financial aid requirements and toured campus facilities.
“The second summer orientation went very smoothly,” says Jocelyn Powell, FVSU’sdirector of academic advisement.
The day began with official greetings from President Larry E. Rivers, who welcomed visitors to campus.
During the academic session, FVSU’s department heads and deans spoke to parents about the different scholastic offerings at the university, and gave tips to help students succeed in their classes.
Following the morning sessions, parents and students alternately had lunch and attended workshops entitled, “FVSU 101: Academic Success the First Year” and “Parents as Partners.”
The day-long event ended with a “Blue and Gold” tour of FVSU’s campus.
The next orientation is July 27. New students are encouraged to register online.
