Thumbs up to Dr. Anna Holloway, dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Extended Education, whose poem “A Timeline of Dresses” will be published in an upcoming work, Poetry of the Golden Generation, Vol. 4. The work is scheduled for release Sept. 20 by the Center for Active Retirement Education (CAREing), in partnership with Kennesaw State University’s English Department.
Holloway will perform her poem for a live audience at Kennesaw State University Saturday, Sept. 20,
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during a Poetry Celebration. Award-winning poet Leon Stokesbury, one of Holloway’s teachers, will also speak at the event.
“I feel very fortunate that I was able to write about my life last winter, and through a process of restructuring and revision create a poem based upon one of the things I have written,” said Holloway, “It takes a lot of time to write poetry. I was fortunate to have created the groundwork to write this poem.”
Holloway submitted three poems. One piece was selected by a steering committee of published poets and KSU English faculty during the Poetry of the Golden Generation competition held this year for individuals 50 years or older. More than 75 poets submitted 210 poems for the competition. Only 74 were selected for publication.
“We wanted to highlight the creative and outstanding artistic talents of those over 50,” said Patsy Matthews, program manager for the CAREing Center. Matthews said a juried poetry and art competition is held every other year for people over 50.
