A major energy company in the state is investing in the future of Fort Valley State University wildcats. Recently, Flint Energies donated $5,000 from its corporate community investment fund to the FVSU Foundation. The money is earmarked for scholarships and will help academically-talented students in Bibb, Chattahoochee, Crawford, Dooly, Harris, Houston, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Muscogee, Peach, Schley, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Twiggs and Upson counties.
Flint Energies is a member-owned electric cooperative that provides energy services to residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural areas in 17 central Georgia counties. Currently, the company serves more than 250,000 Peach State residents.
“We don’t make a lot of corporate donations,” said Robert Ray Jr., chief executive officer and president of Flint Energies. “Seeing the momentum at FVSU
encouraged us to donate and join the excitement that’s being generated by the university’s leadership.” Ray said the company is happy to reach into the local community, to help students who will serve as the future workforce.
According to Ray, FVSU is one of Flint Energies top ten customers. The company provides energy to several of the university’s agricultural facilities.
