Fort Valley State loses to Virginia Union in gridiron action

Taria Donaldson ran for a touchdown and Lamar Little threw for two more scores in the first quarter to lead the Virginia Union Panthers to a 27-2 win over the Fort Valley State University Wildcats in football action on Saturday, Sept. 13. With the win, Virginia Union improves to 2-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 1-3.

Little completed 9 of 15 passes for 131 yards despite being sacked numerous times by the Wildcats’ defense. Donaldson finished the day with 86 yards on 14 carries.

Fort Valley’s lone score came on a safety by Michael Houser with 6:29 left in the first half when he sacked Little in the end zone. The ‘Cats found the going tough all day as they could gain only 106 yards in total offense. Trenton Newton led the Wildcats’ defense with a game high 13 tackles.

After Virginia Union’s first quarter outburst, the game turned out to be a battle for field position. The Wildcats did manage to drive the ball deep into the Panthers’ territory twice, but came up short each time.

Fort Valley State will have next week off before hosting Tuskegee University on Sept. 27.
