Excellent writing skills can elevate the careers of students in any major. The WIN Lab, located at FVSU’s Bond Building has expanded to help students write compelling reports, award winning essays and research papers that get published. The lab now has three new instructors and nine tutors who are experts in tackling every writing obstacle.
“We encourage students to come in at any stage of the writing process,” said Caroline Lewis, one of the recently-hired WIN Lab instructors. “If they have trouble finding topics or organizing the paper, we’re here to help.”
This month, Dorothy Hardman, director of the WIN Lab and her team – Christina Matthews, Caroline Lewis and ErikaLynn Taylor-Mwenze — visited more than 29 sections of English 1101 to introduce the new services. The lab tracks more than 1,000 student logins each month.
“I really think our students like coming here,” said Hardman. “Even when our students graduate or need more help, they can always come back.” The following services are offered to undergraduate and graduate students:

• Regents Test preparation and practice,
• Essay Writing Assistance (Topic Choice, Brainstorming, Purpose, Organization, Voice Details, Specifics, Audience, Grammar)
• Research Paper Assistance (Citing Sources, Using Online Searches, How to Make Research Work for You)
• Revising Assistance
• Editing Assistance
• Resume/Cover Letter Writing
• Creative Writing

The lab also has a store that offers basic school supplies such as blue books, pencils, pens, legal pads and highlighters and is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, call at (478) 825-6682.
