Traditional Freshmen

Traditional freshmen are applicants who have been out of high school less than five years from an accredited or approved high school.

As a Traditional Freshman applicant you should submit the following:

  • A complete Application for Admission
  • The required application fee ($20.00)
    • A credit card is needed to apply on-line
    • Mail in – a cashier’s check or money order only made payable to: Fort Valley State University
  • A complete Certificate of Immunization form
  • An official high school transcript.
  • An official SAT or ACT scores. Test scores must be sent directly from the testing service or must be submitted on an official high school transcript.
  • An official college transcript (if applicable) from each college attended (less than 30 semester transferable hours)

Applicants who are currently attending high school should submit a “preliminary” transcript. Upon high school graduation, an official final high school transcript must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. You will not be allowed to register for classes until we receive your FINAL high school transcript. (All students admitted in the “Traditional Freshman” category are required to take the Fort Valley State University Accuplacer. Contact Testing Center for additional information).

Traditional Freshmen Admission Requirements

  • Required minimum score on the SAT/ACT. The minimum scores for tests are:
    • SAT:

      • Critical Thinking – 430
      • Math - 400
    • ACT:
      • English – 17
      • Math - 17
  • Academic Grade Point Average – 2.25 (based on the 16 CPC units only)
  • Complete the required 16 College Preparatory Curriculum courses:
    • English - 4 Units
    • Mathematics - 4 Units
      • Algebra I
      • Algebra II
      • Geometry
      • Advanced Trigonometry or Discrete Math or any higher-level math
    • Science - 3 Units
      • Biology
      • Physical Science
      • Chemistry or any other Lab Science
    • Science - 3 Units
      • Biology
      • Physical Science
      • Chemistry or any other Lab Science
    • Social Science - 3 Units
      • American History
      • World History
      • Economics (1/2 unit)
      • Government (1/2 unit) or other Social Science courses
    • Foreign Language - 2 Years of Same Language - 2 Units
