Tips on Applying

Applications for each upcoming academic year are available in January. For priority processing, all required documents must be on file in the Office of Financial Aid by April 15. Applications not on file by that date will be processed as time and funds permit.

The Office of Financial Aid begins processing completed applications as soon as Federal Regulations are issued and the Board of Regents has established fees for the academic year. At that time, awards will be made to all students with a completed file. After awarding these students, the financial aid office will continue to process files. Award Notification Letters will be sent weekly for completed files until FSEOG, FCWS and Federal Perkins Loan funds are exhausted. Pell Grants, Federal Student Loans and Parent PLUS Loans are made throughout the year to those who qualify.

Tips When Applying For Financial Aid

  • Apply Early! You may complete FVSU’s Financial Aid Application as soon as you receive it. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal Application can be completed as soon as the appropriate tax forms are completed.
  • Read all printed material. If you do not understand something, call the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Make a copy of everything you submit.
  • Keep a folder with all copied materials, instructions, applications, and notifications.
  • Reply promptly to a request for additional information, even if you think the information has already been provided.
  • Make sure the appropriate Social Security numbers are on all the applications. Your name on the FAFSA and your Social Security Card must match or your application cannot be processed.
  • Be sure all signatures appear on the applications.
  • Use your full legal name on all applications. Do not use nicknames, abbreviations or middle names as first names.
