Research Scientist – Agricultural Biostatistics

Job Summary:  The Research Scientist – Agricultural Biostatistics will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a research program in his/her area of expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform research program in agricultural biostatistics
  • Engage in collaborative research and statistical consultancy with faculty, staff and students
  • Write external research grant proposals to support research programs
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Serve on departmental, college, and institution-level committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • PhD in statistics/applied mathematics or in plant/animal breeding/genetics with emphasis on statistics; ABD will be considered
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong communications skills and knowledge of statistical computing software
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative research that interfaces statistics and agriculture
  • Demonstrated excellence in research publications and other scholarly activities


  • Post-doctoral research experience


Working Conditions:

  • Traditional work schedule – Monday through Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • May be required to work beyond regular work hours (evenings and/or weekends) as defined by the needs of the department
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Majority of work is in a climate-controlled environment; some work may be outdoors
  • Travel to attend meetings, conferences, trainings, etc.


Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear; lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distant and color visions, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
