Program Assistant Director/Building Manager

Summary:

The Program Assistant Director/Building Manager reports to the Director of Residence Life and is a staff member in the Department of Residential Life. This position provides leadership in the development and marketing of University Housing. This position also supplements and complements the process of formal education in University Housing by enhancing the educational environment through health, lifestyle, educational, Community Service, and cultural awareness programs that will optimize individual growth and foster community development. Working in unison with fellow Building Managers, Resident Assistants, Campus Life, and Student Leaders, the selected individual will create a residential environment that is conducive to the intellectual, psycho-social, moral, and cultural growth of the resident population. The selected individual will also coordinate Residential Life’s off campus Community Service Initiative and the Resident Assistant Program. Specific responsibilities will depend upon the individual needs of his/her particular job assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate the marketing of University Housing
  • Develop, coordinate, and assess the programming objectives for the Department of Residential Life
  • Coordinate the departmental Community Service Initiative
  • Coordinate the Resident Assistant Program
  • Manage all aspects of a student housing facility on a 24/7 basis
  • Ability to provide excellent Customer Service to students, parents, co-workers, and general public
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops for student and professional staff
  • This is a live on campus position
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and a member of emergency response team
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Counseling and behavior management skills
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to report maintenance concerns
  • Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills
  • Skill in establishing, directing and enforcing policies and regulations which pertain to campus life and to student development
  • Knowledge of academic standards governing student probation, suspension, and/or expulsion
  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
  • Knowledge of policies, programs and service delivery models for disabled college student populations
  • Knowledge of student support programs and services
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Assist with developing Hall Government; provide guidance and training in the areas of programming, fundraising, officer elections, and hall governance
  • Attends and participates in Residential Life staff meetings as scheduled
  • Holds one-on-one meetings with Residential Life staff and others on a regular basis
  • Employee development and performance management skills
  • Provide 24 hour on-call duties
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with two years of experience that is directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree

Working Conditions & Physical Effort: 

• Arrange transportation and transport students to occasional off campus Community Service sites

• Work extended hours (evenings and weekends) during peak periods.

Physical Effort

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Drive University vehicles (car, van) while traveling on official university business
  • Work extended hours (evenings and weekends) and some holidays
