Jocelyn Neal is the director of academic success services at Fort Valley State University. In this capacity, she is responsible for aiding in the retention, progression, and graduation of students. She coordinates, implements, and supervises activities and duties for advisement and registration activities and first and second year experiences.

Prior to this role, she was director of  tutorial services and academic advisement for the Center for Retention Services. This included supervision of the Center for Retention Services tutorial lab and the recruitment, training and supervision of student tutors through events like Peer Tutor Training Program Workshops each semester. She also identified and secured online tutoring software to address the needs of students. She collected data on the tutor pool, student requests, and lab activities and compiled periodic statistical reports on usage of tutorial services. She also provided intrusive advisement, administrative support, and monitoring (academic, emotional, social, and professional) to students.

Neal serves on the Academic Appeals, Registration, Retention, Honors Program Advisory Committees, and  serve as the point of contact for FVSU Orientation programs for academic and advisement workshops. She continually explores ways to innovate and enhance effectiveness, such as assessing semester evaluations of tutorial and advisement services and propose improvements for implementation.

Neal has also served as the executive director of FVSU’s Center for Retention Services, providing leadership in academic advising for freshmen and sophomores, assisting students in enrollment, and coordinating programs which connected  academic affairs, student affairs, learning support, health services, counseling, testing and tutorial services to ensure students’ success.

Neal has had previous roles, including director of tutorial services and academic advisement, director of academic advisement, and admissions counselor and recruiter. She was the oordinator of FVSU Presidential Scholarships and implemented the FVSU Presidential Scholar Leadership Institute. In addition, she has served as a Welcome to The Valley (Freshman Orientation) Committee member, chair for Ladies Orientation,  Learning Community Coordinator, Chairperson for the Honors Learning Community, instructor for FVSU 0100 – Introduction to the University, Scholarship Committee member, Residency Committee member,  Retention Committee member, President’s Enrollment Contingency Task Force Committee member, advisor for the FVSU Pep Club, and coordinated special events with former First Lady Betty Rivers, including Sip-n-Chat’s, Camellia Unveiling Ceremony, Tubman Museum Display, Tea at Noon in June, and Business After Hours.

She earned an education specialist in educational leadership degree from Argosy University, an Master of Public Administration degree from Georgia College and State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications from Fort Valley State University.
