Trio Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search is an early intervention outreach program funded by the U. S. Department of Education, provides supportive services to 6th – 12th grade students, including adults who are seeking to re-enter the educational process for the GED or for veterans and other adults who seek to enter college. Students work one-on-one and in small or large groups with Talent Search Field Representatives.

The mission of Educational Talent Search is to seek qualified middle and high school youth with potential for education at the postsecondary level; increase the number of youth graduating from high school to enter programs of postsecondary education of their choice.

  • Academic Survival and Study Skills
  • Education and Guidance On-Line Resource Center
  • Information on postsecondary education
  • Field Trips to college campuses, college and career fairs, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related businesses
  • Information on student financial aid
  • Career Exploration
  • Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications
  • Fee payment assistance for college admission applications and college entrance exams (ACT, SAT)
  • Financial Literacy
  • Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
  • Workshop for families of participants

Any middle or high school student in the 6th – 12th grade or who is at least 11 years old and not more than 27 years old. Because an Educational Opportunity Center does not operate in our target counties, we can also provide services to adults who are older than 27 years of age. Veterans regardless of age are also eligible to participate in the Talent Search project if they satisfy the eligibility requirements.
Individuals who plan to be college-bound are eligible if they meet one or both of the following eligibility guidelines:

  • A potential first-generation college student (neither parent graduated from a four-year college or university).
  • Limited Income

Two-thirds of the program’s participants must be potential first generation college students and have limited income. The other one-third of participants can come from any educational or financial family background (highly educated or high income).

Apply to become a participant of Educational Talent Search TODAY! All applications must be signed by both the student and the parent if applicant is under age 18.
