Food Science Major
Bachelor of Science Degree Program
Food science is the study of the makeup of the substances that provide nourishment for humans and animals, the way those substances are processed and distributed for consumption. This includes understanding of their chemical, physical, and biological properties. Professionals in food science seek to make nutritious food available for more people.
Along with the University of Georgia, FVSU is one of only two schools in Georgia which offer a bachelor’s degree in food science. Food product industries account for almost a fifth of manufacturing employment in the state.
Professionals with food science backgrounds pursue careers in product development, research and development, quality control, regulation, and education.
Students at FVSU can earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in food science. The program is administered through the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences, and Technology.
