Sianjina named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs

May 22, 2015 – Dr. Jessica Bailey, acting president at Fort Valley State University, recently named Dr. Rayton Sianjina as the interim provost and vice president for academic affairs on campus. The appointment is effective immediately.

Sianjina served as FVSU’s College of Graduate Studies and Extended Education dean since July 2014. The administrator received his bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in educational administration from Harding University in Searcy, Ark. He earned his doctorate from the University of Mississippi-Oxford in 1990.

Sianjina possesses more than 24-years in higher education administration. FVSU’s interim provost accepted his first job as an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 1990. The professional joined the University of Louisiana-Monroe’s College of Education in August 1995 as an associate professor of instructional technology. Sianjina later accepted a position as an associate professor of instructional technology at the same college. He also served as directors for the Young Scholar’s Program, and the science fair for Northeast region of Louisiana, and the Louisiana area’s social studies fair.

After his time at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Sianjina was hired by Delaware State University. He took several leadership positions, including serving as the chairperson for the education department, director of distance education and learning technologies, director of the Graduate Education Programs, and founding board member for Early College High School.

Additionally, the scholar is experienced in acquiring national and international partnerships among universities, private and public cooperations, and competitive grant funding. In 2013, he was awarded a $125,000 grant from the Delaware State Department of State Education for resigning the Teacher Education Program at Delaware State University to respond to Common Core Standards.
