FVSU pens articulation agreement with Georgia Military College

June 13, 2014 -Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, president of Fort Valley State University and Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV, president of Georgia Military College (GMC) recently signed an articulation agreement that makes it easier for GMC students to attend Fort Valley State. The articulation agreement signing took place at June 10 at 11:30 a.m. in the legislative chamber of the Old Capitol Building on GMC’s campus.

The new memo of understanding will allow Georgia Military College students to apply their associate degree credit hours toward FVSU baccalaureate degrees. GMC students will be able to transfer degree credits without losing credit hours, providing a more seamless transition to FVSU.

“I’m delighted that we are building this partnership with Georgia Military College, which, like FVSU, has a splendid reputation for making the dreams of young men and women come true,” Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, president of FVSU, said about the new agreement.

“Not only will young men and women we able to complete their baccalaureate degrees at Fort Valley State University, but I know some of them also will want to pursue their master’s degrees with us,” he said. “More than this, though, this partnership enables our two institutions to make another powerful contribution to the laudable goals of Complete College Georgia. I look forward not only to the signing of the agreement, but to the strong relationships between our faculties and administrators as we enable our students to Dream and Do.”

Caldwell also praised the agreement as a boon for both institutions and their students.

“Of course at Fort Valley State they can go beyond just the four-year degree,” Caldwell said. “ To us it’s a very natural fit. We have a major campus that is located very close to Fort Valley State University so we saw it as an enormous opportunity for our students to have the ability to still be somewhere near home and go to your institution to finish their four-year degree.”
