TRIO Student Support Services
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally-funded grant program that is designed to increase the retention, graduation and transfer rates of first generation, low income and/or disabled college students enrolled at Fort Valley State University.
In its commitment to provide educational opportunity for Americans—regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance—the U.S. Congress established a series of eight programs to help low-income individuals enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America’s economic and social life.
These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and referred to as the TRIO Programs (initially just three programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services).Today, TRIO serves and assists first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
Our purpose is achieved through an interconnected series of academic, personal, social, financial, technological and cultural related support services.
