Exit Counseling
What is Entrance Counseling?
Entrance counseling ensures you understand the terms and conditions of your loan and your rights and responsibilities. You will learn what a loan is, how interest works, your options for repayment, and how to avoid delinquency and default.
Who Should Complete Entrance Counseling?
Students receiving the following types of loans for the first time:
- Direct Subsidized Loans
- Direct Unsubsidized Loans
- Direct PLUS Loans for graduate/professional students
How long will Entrance Counseling take?
Entrance Counseling takes about 30 minutes to complete and it must be completed in a single session.
What do I need for Entrance Counseling?
- Verified StudentAid.gov account
- School Name(s)
- Financial Aid Offer (this is the letter from your school that outlines your loans, scholarships, and other aid it offered)
- Breakdown of Your School’s Tuition and Fees
What is Exit Counseling?
You must complete exit counseling when you leave school or drop below half-time enrollment. The purpose of exit counseling is to ensure you understand your student loan obligations and are prepared for repayment.
Who should complete Exit Counseling?
Student federal loan borrowers who are:
- leaving school,
- graduating, or
- dropping below half-time enrollment.
Parent PLUS Loan borrowers are not required to complete exit counseling.
How long will Exit Counseling take?
Exit counseling takes about 30 minutes to complete. You must complete it in one session; you cannot save and return to an incomplete session.

- Verified StudentAid.gov account
- School Name(s)
- Updated Contact Information
Once you complete exit counseling, email the Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@fvsu.edu to ensure your completion is on file.
