University Today Scholars’ Program

Purpose

The University Today Scholars’ Program is Fort Valley State University’s unique college preparatory program designed to encourage Georgia high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to earn college degree-level credit hours as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements. Students have the opportunity to matriculate into credit bearing courses at our university during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Function

Courses cover the spectrum of academic core curriculum and focus on enhancing research and analytical skills. Tuition and book costs are covered for participating Georgia public high school students. Students are provided an infrastructure to insure success through tutorial assistance in our Academic Success Center and other services including: assistance with college exploration opportunities; provide SAT/ACT workshops and assistance with test registration; assistance with completing college applications; identifying scholarship opportunities; and identifying summer employment opportunities.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for credit bearing courses requires the following: must be high school junior or senior; must be classified as a legal resident of Georgia; must meet citizenship requirements; must not owe a refund on a State program; must not already have a GED or high school diploma; must have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0; must have a minimum composite (verbal & math) score of 970 on the SAT or a 23 cumulative score on the ACT.

Prospective students can enroll by submitting an FVSU application, immunization records, official high school transcript, official test scores and an Accel application.
