Welcome to the Department of Business Administration and Economics Webpage! As one of the largest academic units at Fort Valley State University, we are very proud of the students, faculty, staff and alumni affiliated with the Department of Business Administration and Economics.

The mission of the business administration and economics program is to provide students with high quality education that emphasizes current knowledge, skills, ethical principles, professional development, and global market place understanding.

Our students major in accounting, economics, general business, marketing, or management. They have the opportunity to participate in a number of professional business organizations and many also choose to intern prior to graduation.
We provide a solid preparation in business principles to prepare students for the world of employment.

The Program

The Department of Business Administration and Economics is the largest academic department of Fort Valley State University. It offers undergraduate degree programs in business that leads to BBA in Accounting, General Business, Management, Marketing, and BA in Economics. Our program is designed to educate and train students to prepare them for the culturally diverse, competitive, and dynamic global business environment. Beyond course contents, emphasis is also placed in the areas of computer skills, conceptual and problem solving skills, written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, teambuilding and leadership skills.

Unique Opportunities

Business students at FVSU have the opportunity to attend the University of Nevada at Las Vegas for one year after graduation and will receive an additional BS in Hotel Administration or for two years and receive a masters degree. The department also offers a certificate in Population Studies and Demography and another in International Business.

Faculty

Our diverse faculty with outstanding academic qualifications and business experience serve as key to the overall learning process. In addition to teaching excellence, our faculty members are also actively involved in research, scholarship, and service activities.

Student Clubs

Students and faculty are actively involved in the Marketing Club, the Economics Club, Students in Free Enterprises (SIFE) and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). These clubs sponsor seminars, field trips, and interact closely with industry. These activities provide students with excellent opportunities for networking with the professional community.

Career & Employment Opportunities

Our graduates find jobs in corporations, public sector agencies, and leading accounting firms. Some graduates pursue entrepreneurial ventures to start their own business and some pursue graduate studies. The department in collaboration with the Counseling and Career Development Center actively pursues all possible employment and internship opportunities for the students.

The University

Fort Valley State University is a public comprehensive 1890 land-grant institution serving Georgia and the rest of the world. The university accepts as its mission the provision of instruction, research, extension, and other public service programs. It is one of the 35 units in the University System of Georgia offering 42 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Fort Valley State University with its 1,375 acres provides a variety of computing facilities, distance learning classrooms, multimedia labs, electronic classrooms and individual workstations. The department has its own computer lab.
