30th Annual Energy Career Day

Event Date:
Mon, 2013/02/25 - 10:00am

Please join us in celebrating our 30th anniversary this month. The Cooperative Developmental Energy Program will hold its two-day 2013 Annual Energy Career Day Conference Sunday and Monday, Feb. 24-25. "CDEP: 30 Years Strong and Still Holding its Own" is our theme and we're working as hard as ever to ensure there are more minorities in the energy industry.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, CDEP will host an Industry Awards Banquet at 7:30 p.m. in the C.W. Pettigrew Center to honor the recipients of CDEP’s Achievement Awards. The honorees for the Platinum Achievement Award this year are Dr. Gary May, first African American Dean for the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech and presidential appointee William Magwood, Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Sunday's event is invitation only.

The pubic is invited to participate in a news conference for the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program’s 30th Annual Energy Career Day. The news conference will be held on Monday, February 25 at 10 a.m. in Fort Valley State University’s C. W. Pettigrew Center auditorium lobby. Representatives from partnering institutions, corporate and governmental sponsors, and CDEP graduates will be available for questions about their involvement with the CDEP program. The annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon will take place at 11:15 a.m. after the news conference. This program is directed by Dr. Isaac J. Crumbly, associate vice president for careers and collaborative programs at FVSU and founder of the FVSU-CDEP.

CDEP and its partnering institutions have graduated 76 engineers, 29 geoscientists and seven health physicists. The partnering institutions include: Georgia Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, University of Arkansas, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, University of Texas-Austin, and the University of Texas-Pan American.

Some of the major energy companies and governmental agencies that support the program are: Chevron Corporation, Shell Oil Company, Marathon Oil Corporation, ConocoPhillips, BP, ExxonMobil, Chesapeake Energy, Southern Company, Department of Energy, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Reclamation, AGL Resources, and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.

During its thirty (30) year history, approximately 1500 students have participated in the CDEP program. Fort Valley State University has the unique distinction of having the nation’s only Cooperative Developmental Energy Program.

Individuals who would like to contribute to CDEP’s 30th Anniversary Gift Giving Campaign should make checks payable to “FVSU Foundation-CDEP” and note “CDEP Alumni Campaign” in the memo section of the check.
