Attempted Hours: includes credit hours that a student has earned, withdrawn from, and courses in which he/she/they did not receive HOPE or Zell Miller scholarship.

HOPE Calculated GPA

Total Quality Points= (Grade Value) x (number of GPA Hours)

Grade Point Average= (Total Quality Points) / (number of GPA Hours)

HOPE Scholarship Eligibility

  • student must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 college HOPE calculated GPA at designated checkpoints. The cumulative 3.0 college calculated HOPE GPA does not include Dual Enrollment coursework taken prior to high school graduation or home study completion.
  • All recipients must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress as determined by your college/university even if you have not reached the Attempted Hours or End of Spring Checkpoint. See our SAP Policy.
  • Students meeting the Checkpoints and GPA requirements can be eligible to receive the scholarship up to a total of 127 semester or 190 quarter Attempted or Paid Hours

I lost my HOPE scholarship. How can I get it back?

Regaining HOPE Scholarship

  1. A student must continue enrollment and have at least a 3.0 GPA by the next Attempted Hours Checkpoint.
  2. Student can only regain HOPE scholarship one time at an Attempted Hours Checkpoint. On the second loss, he or she will become permanently ineligible for HOPE scholarship.

How long can I receive HOPE scholarship?

The Expiration of Eligibility is based upon your total attempted hours and degrees earned. A student will no longer receive the HOPE scholarship once he or she has earned a baccalaureate (four-year) degree and/ or attempted 127 semester or 190 quarter hours.

Will I remain eligible for HOPE although I am a transfer student?

HOPE Scholarship eligibility may continue when transferring from one HOPE eligible college/university to another HOPE eligible college/university by continuing to meet all the eligibility requirements at the new college/university

**NOTE: All college/university degree credit hours attempted at any college/university, and the corresponding grades, are counted toward the calculated HOPE GPA, even if those hours and grades are not accepted by your transfer college/university
