Graduate Student Major Grier Goes Above and Beyond

Posted on Dec 08, 2022

During her enrollment through the clinical mental health counseling graduate program, Major Tatotshia Grier, a Lieutenant, Captain, Interim Captain, and Interim Chief within FVSU’s Campus Safety Department, continued to serve and protect our students, faculty, staff, and campus on a day-to-day basis with a smile! Due to her multifaceted roles, she had an opportunity to touch many lives and work with people who love and respect her. Her compassion for helping others led her to pursue a clinical mental health counseling degree.

She plans to use her knowledge and skills in law enforcement and mental health to help combat the daily stressors and crises we continue to face as a country. Major Grier has demonstrated resilience by going above and beyond the call of duty, often working long hours and working overnight shifts when the department was understaffed. She persevered while undergoing a change in leadership and diligently met all her course requirements.

Major Grier showed her multitasking skills while balancing her job and coursework; she was determined to complete her program of study and keep her eye on her ultimate goal of “making a difference in the lives of others.” Towards the end of her career with Campus Safety at Fort Valley State University, Major Grier was offered a position at another institution, but she continued to pursue her degree. Now she has reached the finish line. She continues to profess her love for her Alma Mater – Fort Valley State University!
