FVSU Announces New Chief Information Officer

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) has named Ndidi Akuta as the new chief information officer (CIO). Akuta, who currently serves as the interim CIO, will begin his new role on September 1.

Since 2018, Akuta has served as the information security officer at FVSU. His prior information technology (IT) roles include Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, Caterpillar, and the City of Griffin.

“Mr. Akuta brings a wealth of knowledge, innovation, and passion that has served and will continue to serve Fort Valley State University,” said President Paul Jones, Ph.D. “I am excited for the leadership he will bring to elevate FVSU during this pivotal time.”

Akuta’s expertise also led him to serve as interim at Gordon State College in IT and cybersecurity for most of 2021.

The CIO is the subject matter expert on all technology-related issues at the University and is responsible for the infrastructure that includes server, network, security, database and systems administration, and desktop support.

“I am eager and humbled to continue serving the FVSU family,” said Akuta. “I look forward to all the opportunities to advance and enhance the University’s technology infrastructure.”

Akuta holds an Education Specialist (EdS) degree in instructional technology from the University of West Georgia, a Master of Science in information technology from Middle Georgia State University, a graduate certificate in cybersecurity from the University of North Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science in computer science technology from Savannah State University. Akuta is enrolled in the Doctor of Science in information technology program at Middle Georgia State University and the Certified Government Chief Information Officer program with the Carl Vinson Institute.

In addition to his degrees, Akuta holds multiple IT certifications, which include COMPTIA (A+, NET+, SEC+), VmWare Certified Professional (VCP) Data Center Virtualization, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and a few others.
