Fort Valley State University's new executive director of marketing and communications has an extensive background in strategic multi-channel marketing campaigns and experience at several corporations, including Coca-Cola and Aflac.

President Paul Jones recently named Mechell Clark McCrary to the post to lead the University's marketing and communications efforts. She started her new role on January 15.

Jones said adding McCrary to the Fort Valley State team will allow the institution to better coordinate the University's messaging on key initiatives and enhance FVSU's reputation through marketing, branding, and digital communications.

Along with product marketing, McCrary's career experience also includes strategic communications, brand management, content management, writing, voice-overs, and media relations.

"Our university has so many outstanding programs and initiatives underway and through Ms. McCrary's expertise, I'm confident we will be able to increase our storytelling through her strategic direction and guidance in the areas of marketing and communications," Jones said. "She will also be vital in identifying key communications trends and strategies to continue propelling FVSU forward."

McCrary said she was honored to become a part of the Wildcat Family.

"I am especially honored to join Fort Valley State University, an institution rich in both legacy and promise," McCrary said. "I look forward to being a part of the Wildcat family working with faculty, staff, students and alumni to help bring more visibility and awareness of the excellence that happens here every day – particularly during a time when Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are receiving the national recognition and attention they have long deserved."

McCrary began her career in state government in Jackson, MS and has since spanned various industries, including financial services, healthcare and manufacturing where she has previously held marketing leadership positions at TSYS, Norican Group and Synovus.

A native of Kosciusko, MS, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing from Mississippi State University and a Master's degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from Jackson State University.

She is a recipient of multiple industry honors including Gold Hermes Creative Awards and Platinum MarCom Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP) recognizing her work for best-integrated campaigns and media relations.

Outside her professional duties, McCrary serves as a board member of the Building Toward Wellness Community Coalition (BTWCC), a non-profit organization devoted to preparing children for productive adulthood in Columbus, GA.
